Requirement to offer lower standing charge tariffs

Closes 22 Oct 2025

Consumer price protection and compliance approach

Summary

Explains how we would protect consumers and make sure that suppliers follow the rules when offering the new tariffs.

Details

We are proposing to add specific requirements in the Standard licence conditions where energy suppliers must set reasonable unit rates on any lower standing charge tariffs. We set out proposed principles for this.

The existing Standard licence condition requirements (including SLC 25 and 31F) support informed choice for customers. We expect that suppliers would continue to follow these rules when communicating the new tariffs. This includes publishing each tariff information label on the suppliers’ websites.

We have the right to assess whether suppliers are meeting the requirements of reasonable tariff pricing and enabling informed choice. We will take enforcement action if needed.
